About this initiative

This platform is an initiative of Valipac, whose basic mission is to provide a collective response to the Extended Producer Responsibility for commercial and industrial packaging.

Our areas of action

In parallel to this mission, Valipac has set itself the objective of achieving circularity for commercial and industrial packaging by acting on 4 areas of action:

  • Increasing recycling
  • Ensuring traceability to guarantee recycling
  • Stimulate local recycling
  • Promoting recyclability and circularity

We have been investing in research and innovation projects over the past few years aimed at increasing the demand for recycled material in Europe.

In collaboration with our partners, we have demonstrated the feasibility of creating shrink hoods made from 50% post-consumer recycled material. More recently, we have demonstrated the same feasibility for stretch films made from 25% post-consumer recycled material.

Why a bonus?

With this 50€/tonne bonus, we are boosting supply and demand at the same time and encouraging the integration of recycled material in commercial and industrial plastic packaging.

The bonus applies to goods put on the Belgian market between 1 January and 31 December. It is paid the following year, in the form of a discount on the amount of Valipac’s invoice relating to the declaration of the corresponding reference year. The bonus is not granted automatically. In their declaration of commercial & industrial packaging put on the Belgian market, clients must report separately the quantities of C&I plastic packaging made from recycled content.
